Academic Achievements and Impact
Dr. Zhao has dedicated nearly 20 years to clinical, teaching, and research work in cardiovascular surgery. He has studied at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Imperial College London’s Hammersmith Hospital, and Ulm University in Germany. He specializes in minimally invasive valve repair or replacement using thoracoscopic-assisted small incisions and three-port full thoracoscopy, congenital heart disease correction, cardiac tumor surgery, aortic root and ascending aorta replacement, coronary artery bypass surgery, ventricular aneurysm resection, ventricular septal defect repair, atrial fibrillation radiofrequency ablation, heart transplantation, and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He has led one National Natural Science Foundation project, received the third prize of Anhui Province Science and Technology Progress Award, and one Anhui Province Postdoctoral Fund. He has participated in one National Natural Science Foundation project, one major Anhui Province Science and Technology project, and has received a second prize and a third prize in Anhui Province Science and Technology Progress Awards. He has published over ten papers, including several SCI papers. He has led three hospital-level new projects, one of which won a third prize for new medical technology at the hospital level. He has been awarded titles such as Excellent Subspecialty Director, Advanced Outpatient Individual, and Outstanding Party Member.

Dr. Zhiwei Zhao is leading a National Natural Science Foundation General Project focused on investigating the mechanism by which miR-10b-5p resists aortic dissection through the FHL3/GSK3β pathway. This project, funded with 530,000 RMB, spans from January 2022 to December 2025.
