Research Areas

1. Functions and applications of human extracellular vesicles;

He is a Chair Professor and Founding Director of the Division of Life Sciences and Medicine at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and tenured professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Graduated from USTC with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1985 and obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1991. Received the USA Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2003; elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2012 and Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) in 2020. He currently serves on the editorial boards of journals such as Cell Research, Science China-Life Sciences, Stem Cells, and Stem Cells Translational Medicine.

 

Primarily focused on research in human stem cell biology and engineering, and the exploration of new methods in cell and gene therapy. Published over 120 research papers in journals such as Lancet, Cell, Cell Stem Cell, Cell Research, Blood, PNAS, Stem Cells, Circulation, Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Medicine, Nature Genetics, with over 20,000 citations and an H-index of 73 (as of 10/2024).

 

Recruitment

The research group is actively recruiting postdoctoral fellows and special associate researchers with backgrounds in molecular biology, cell biology, stem cells and regenerative medicine, and extracellular vesicle research. Undergraduate students are warmly welcomed to pursue master's and doctoral degrees.
