Prof. TIAN Zhigang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), has been elected to the Academia Europaea 2022 (clinical & veterinary science) on May 30th for his excellence and contribution to tumor immunology.TIAN, a medicine and health scientist from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), is widely recognized as the pioneer of NK cells and immunology. Over the years, he has published more than 400 papers as corresponding author in authoritative and distinguished journals, such as Science, Cell, Nat Immunol, Immunity, etc. His dedication has won him the Second Prize of China's National Natural Science Award in 2008 and 2019, also the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress.TIAN is also actively involved in paving the way for academic research both domestically and internationally. He is currently the committee board chief of the International Union of Immunology Societies (IUIS), chief of Supervisory Board of Chinese Society of Immunology, and former president of the Chinese Society for Immunology.Prof. TIAN has enjoyed multiple titles throughout his academic career. He is now the deputy director of the Academic Committee of the USTC, director of the Institute of Immunology, director of the Key Laboratory of Innate Immunity and Chronic Diseases of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Drug Gene and Protein Screening (Northeast Normal University), director of the Biomedicine and Health Laboratory in Anhui Province, and Dean of the Institute of Health and Medicine, Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center.The Academia Europaea is a scientific society established in London, UK (formed in 1988), which aims to promote scientific progress and facilitate interdisciplinary and international exchange between scientific communities. As an academy that enjoys a high reputation in the disciplines of science, humanities, and letters, Academia Europaea has drawn talent from all countries of Europe, and all disciplines, nationalities, and geographical locations.Members of the Academia Europaea, who are mainly based in Europe, represent the highest scientific level and academic status in the European humanities and natural sciences. For now, about 5,500 scientists have been elected as members, and 90 Nobel Prize laureates were included.
